| The Sag Harbor Historical Society is desperately in need of your help! | |||||||||||
| Due to the unprecedented request for grant money we will receive no financial help towards the restoration of the Annie Cooper Boyd House! | |||||||||||
| The house needs approximately $200,000 to be properly restored and preserved. | |||||||||||
| Unlike East Hampton, Southampton, and Bridgehampton, the Sag Harbor Historical Society has no paid help. All of the members, along with board, volunteer their time free of charge. | |||||||||||
| In spite of having no paid help, we have accomplished a great deal over the years. Some of the things we have achieved include: | |||||||||||
| We have restored the old jail house and opened as a museum. We have published the most complete history of Sag Harbor to date. We have helped to expand the historic district to include most of Sag Harbor. We fought to keep the "Umbrella House" from being re-developed. We published a self-guided walking tour of the village. We helped work on the creation of pamphlets regarding proper old house restoration and fencing for Sag Harbor. We have provided dozens of special program meetings free of charge to the public. |
|||||||||||
| We are currently working on a new project to provide signage around the village identifying historic places and the locations of important buildings which no longer exist. | |||||||||||
| We have already catalogued and filed much of the historic contents of the Annie Cooper Boyd House using the latest conservation methods. Much of this material is available for research and consists of many rare photos, cards, documents, etc. | |||||||||||
| If we do not receive community support then we will not be able to restore the Annie Cooper Boyd House and ownership will revert to the estate where it will be sold for private use. The Society needs a headquarters, research center, and museum, all of which the Boyd House can and will accomodate. | |||||||||||
| Whether or not the public shows support for this most urgent project will determine whether or not we will continue as a Society. We hope you will be convinced that what we have done in the past and what we can do in the future is worthy of your support. | |||||||||||
| Please give as much as you can. | |||||||||||
| Thank You. | |||||||||||
